Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics
UBC unboundED has developed a new pilot project that pairs University students with high school students in their senior years. Together, they will attempt to develop practical solutions to real world problems; learning skills related to research, development, and application. Each team will be granted a budget to help turn these theories into reality, eventually presenting them to UBC's student body in January. Afterwords, we will work with each team to help present their work throughout the local community.


​Networking Opportunities: Members will have the opportunity to meet university students and scientists who work in the field of interest. 

Educational Opportunities: Students will be learning by doing. By helping to create activities for the main event, students will gain a deeper knowledge about the fields they wish to pursue.

Leadership Opportunities: Members will have the opportunity to plan activities, work in teams, and facilitate activities at the events.

Presenting the disconnect between cancer research and popular media


A short presentation that took place at Moscrop Secondary School in collaboration with Moscrop Cancer Society. The focus of this research project was to explain the miscommunication that often occurs in popular media when it comes to discussing the findings of cancer research. 

Why is this important?

Popular media such as news outlets have the role of informing the general public about the current state of cancer. If issues persist such as click-bait riddled titles, it reduces the amount of trust that cancer researchers have on society. It also causes public health figures to lose a sense of authority as these articles give the public a false sense of understanding through oversimplification.
